As we celebrate Father’s Day, I wanted to take a quick moment to think about my favorite daddy food moments. So here we go, in no particular order…
Fishing:
When I was growing up, I would regularly go fishing with my dad. So many memories are linked to our fishing trips. For most of my life, I wouldn’t eat any fish but the ones caught by my dad. Because it was fresh and delicious. He even has a special seasoning mix to fry it and I still don’t know what it is.
Of course, many fishing memories are related to the snacks we would bring on our trips: hot-dogs and spam to cook over fire in the summer, hot chicken broth to drink in the winter.
Baked Spaghetti:
On special occasions, when my dad wanted to make dinner for my mom, he would almost always bake spaghetti. The sauce was already made by my mom but it still became his signature dish.
Quest for the best Asian dishes:
My dad and I both loved our local Chinese restaurant. We used to tease each other to see who would eat the most. On our weekend shopping days, we sometimes tried new Chinese restaurants, in a quest for the perfect wonton soup, our favorite dish. Years later, we both developed a loved for sushi. I loved that my dad was always willing to try new kinds. In Charlottesville, I also introduced him to the best dumplings I have ever had at Marco & Luca.
I will end this post with a few extra daddy’s girl memories. Happy father’s day to all the daddies out there!
