I am officially done with this semester and couldn’t be happier about it! To celebrate, I am throwing myself in the kitchen in preparation for the different holiday festivities. My apron is stickier than ever and I love it! It means I’m having fun!
Over the last two days, I made my first ever bûche de Noël. In Quebec, they are very common and every family has one on their dinner table during the holiday, whether it’s an ice-cream one or a regular cake one. You can find them in every grocery store. Being in the US for the last few years, traditions changed and I haven’t had a Christmas log for over 4 years now. I decided this year, I’d make my own. So I bought a jelly-roll pan (turns out it’s really just a regular baking sheet) and found a recipe that didn’t look too overwhelming. I made a test one on Monday as I never tried it before and it became my husband’s “birthday log” today. I will be making a prettier one (with almond paste decorations) on Thursday as we will be having some friends over on Friday.
The practice log turned birthday cake.
Today was a canning day. I made marmalade, which made me think of Paddington Bear all morning and some homemade Nutella that left me wondering why I didn’t double the recipe.
