Starting Fresh

After almost a week away from the blog, I realized that the last week was filled with tasty but not-so-healthy recipes and a lot of laziness. I had a mental conflict between the urge to bake and the need to eat better. Let’s just start by admitting that making lemon muffins and lemon meringue pie in the same week might have been a little over the top. Also, making brownies and whipped cream, although perfect for my friend’s birthday, turned out to be a bad thing to have around the house the next day. Normally, I don’t tend to feel as bad as I should about eating poorly (the food wasn’t poor, it was actually very rich…and that was the problem!). But as I started working out 5 days a week for the past three weeks, I can definitely notice a change in my body but also in my level of energy if I don’t eat the right kind of food.

So, this week, I want to get back on track. After indulging in a ridiculous brownie sundae last night, I knew I had to make a drastic change. So as soon as I woke up this morning, I threw away the leftover pie, brownie and whipped cream. Trust me, it hurt me to do it. But not as much as it would hurt me to keep eating it! I just had to do it. This week will start fresh. No baking (not even bread), no sweets, and probably no pasta either. *sigh* I will focus my meals on colorful fresh ingredients. No complicated recipes, just basic ingredients, cooked with the perfect seasoning and nothing more. Fresh culinary herbs will be my best allies. My little garden looks gigantic and out of control, and I have to take advantage of the lettuce and spinach before it all goes bad. There will likely be lots of smoothies, omelets, and salads.

I apologize in advance as this week’s meals might not be very interesting to read about. I do have lots of recipes that I made in the last week but didn’t write about so I might have to go back in time to write something blog-worthy. 🙂

Have a lovely week everyone! 🙂
